The Lowry Avenue Bridge is an important transportation corridor and neighborhood
connection in Minneapolis. Hennepin County started the design process for bridge
replacement in 2007. The bridge was closed in 2008 due to known structural issues
and demolished in June 2009.
Phase I of the replacement project - the bridge over the Mississippi River - is
underway.

for more information and photographs of Phase I construction.
On April 27th, the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners authorized funding for
Phase II of the replacement project. Phase II involves construction over the Canadian
Pacific Railroad and its roadway approaches. The schedule for Phase II is being
finalized. Phase II construction will be concurrent with Phase I and is tentatively
scheduled to start in early 2011.
The entire Lowry Avenue Bridge Replacement Project - including Phase I and Phase
II, from Marshall St. NE to 2nd St. N – is scheduled for completion in Summer 2012.
